Our Cider journey began three years ago when we were looking for a sparkling wine replacement. Hank wanted to create a cider that was refreshing and easy-drinking while remaining entirely food friendly. We use 9 different varieties of Red Apples from across Ontario and this allows us to make Shiny naturally sweetened. Our cider is gluten free, vegan friendly and comes in at a sneaky dangerous 7% alcohol. So come by the winery or stop at the LCBO to pick up your cans and growlers!
Our estate farm is family run and has been in operation for over 50 years. Lambert Hunse purchased the property when he came to Canada from the Netherlands in 1954. It was originally a fruit and poultry farm that the family replanted as vineyards in 1985 (The Chardonnay patch right outside our front door has vines that are now thirty years old). The then over 200 acre vineyard released its first vintage under Stonechurch in 1990. Ten years ago Lambert’s eldest son, Hank, took over the business and began re-branding it as Small Talk Vineyards. In June 2014 we launched Shiny Apple Cider and in March 2017 we released our reserve wine label Big Ideas. The property is now 78 acres and has 11 grape varieties under vine.
